Offering a cooler climate, often 10-15 degrees cooler than Albuquerque, the East Mountains and the Cibola National Forrest are a haven for sports enthusiast. Numerous recreational opportunities are available including snow skiing at Sandia Peak, snowshoe racing, cross country skiing, sledding, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, dirt biking (on designated trails), camping and more.

Private school options include East Mountain Christian Academy (PK-12), Mountain View Academy (grades K-5), Mountain View Academy West (grades K-5), and Mountain View Mennonite School (grades 1-8).
